This would mean most likely going to Middle Basin, camping at BR-17 next to Ryder Lake, and exploring the high bench of Middle Basin which looks, at least in pictures, very similar to the high bench in Naturalist Basin (just on the other side of the ridge, as it happens) that I saw last year. I'm not sure how long I'll spend here, but if I get tired of the same spot and still have time, I can backtrack to the fork in the trail and take the other branch to Amethyst Basin and Amethyst Lake, Ostler Lake, etc. There's also another small spur trail that heads to Kermsuh Lake in the West Basin; just on the other side of a ridge from Middle Basin to the south, and Hell Hole Basin to the north--another place I explored a bit last year.

In any case, for any of these destinations, one of my main goals would be to hike up to saddles between the peaks and look out over multiple basins at once from a high vantage point. It's possible, although not necessarily my plan, to hit a summit while I'm at it; Agassiz, Hayden, Kletting, Ostler, Spread Eagle, etc. will all be nearby.Desdichadohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14774274812688958457noreply@blogger.com
